THREAD FOR UNDERBOSS

In machine embroidery, as opposed to sewing, we will almost always have a differentiation between the lower and the upper thread. A separate discussion should be made for when making macramé lace-like bobbins, online embroidery digitizing, or crochet-like laces in which the threads, in order not to have a visualization of the obverse/reverse and for a greater body required by the embroidery, are both used of the same type.

The bobbin thread will always be a much thinner thread than the upper one in order to guarantee the softness of the embroidery: it is a draw-resistant yarn and very often pre-refined to increase its ease of unwinding and guarantee a homogeneous embroidery.

A well-done embroidery can often be seen not only from the right side but also from the wrong side of the work, where the bobbin thread must be present for one-third of the embroidery.

In some machines there is already a design that allows you to control the tension of the yarn under the bobbin well; it is actually a series of lines made with a launched stitch that allows us to evaluate the quality of the embroidery.

Once this test has been carried out on the obverse we should see only the upper colored embroidery thread and on the reverse, we will see that the sides of the row will always be with the upper embroidery thread while the center will be composed of yarn for the bobbin.

Once you have found the optimal thread, always use the same one in order to be sure, embroidery digitizing, that you do not have to adapt the thread pulling by acting on the screw in the lower looper.

NEEDLES

As for the yarns, the choice of the needle also plays an important role: to simplify, let’s say that in the needle we find an upper part called the tang, a stem with a groove, the eye, and the tip.

The tang is the part of the needle that fits into the needle bar vise of the machine.

It has a cylindrical shape and can have a longitudinal section to favor the exact positioning of the needle in the machine.

We must pay attention to the type of needle compatible with the embroidery machine: those that have a completely cylindrical shank are often suitable for industrial machines while in those for hobbies we will be facilitated by the presence of the reference notch for correct positioning.

Get all our materials, all that remains is to begin our adventure with embroidery, and, gradually, we will arrive at such results, that we feel the need to be able to manage the designs ourselves.

So the next natural step will be the choice of suitable software for the creation of the embroideries which we will talk about later.

Always check the compatibility of the pre-spools which, if they are definitely recommended for industrial machines, may not be suitable for all brands of embroidery machines in those for hobbies.

The choice of this type of yarn will always follow you in your work because it will remain one of the materials constantly present in your kit, embroidery digitizing services, so try more than one type and always evaluate that the adjustment is optimal with the machine tension.
